October is Almost Here—And So Are Some Epic Open Source Events!
From hackathons to contribution events, October is filled with opportunities to dive into open-source. And yes, I’m talking about the month of “Hacktober”
In this article, I’ll share 7 Open Source Events You can take part in this October or, I can say "Hacktober".
So, without delaying further, Let’s START! 🚀
Hacktoberfest
Hacktoberfest is a month-long event organized by Digital Ocean that encourages people to contribute to open source throughout October. With thousands of repositories participating, You have a lot of options to contribute based on your experience and preferred tech stack.
This is the event from which I started my open-source journey. It’s friendly, inclusive, and has an amazing community atmosphere.
How to participate:
Register on the Hacktoberfest website.
Find repositories with the “Hacktoberfest” label and start contributing.
Make four valid pull requests (PRs) before October 31st.
Prizes?
Get your PRs merged, and you’ll get a tree planted in your name.
Plus, bragging rights for supporting the open-source community!
A Few Things to Note:
Be sure to check if the repositories are opted into Hacktoberfest before contributing.
Only quality contributions will be counted—so no spammy PRs!
It’s a great event to kick off your open-source journey, and who knows, you might end up being a long-term contributor to some amazing projects.
DevFest AI
If you’re interested in AI, you should definitely take part in DevFest AI. It is a month-long Open Source event where you can create squads contribute to projects and get some awesome swags.
If you’re a machine learning enthusiast or an AI beginner, DevFest AI is a great opportunity to team up, contribute, and compete for rewards.
How to participate?
Register on DevFest using your GitHub account.
Create or join an existing squad, or get assigned to one randomly.
Contribute code to any AI-related repository, and collect points for your merged pull requests.

The top 100 contributors based on merged PRs will receive exclusive DevFest swag.

This year, Taipy is spicing things up for Hacktoberfest with a range of issues on their GitHub repository. No matter your experience level, there's something for everyone.
Plus, they’re giving away some awesome swag based on the difficulty level of the issues you solve!
How to participate?
Go to the Taipy GitHub repository, explore the "Issues" tab go to the issues tab.
Filter the issues by the label "Hacktoberfest".
Choose an issue based on your skill level—easy, intermediate, or advanced.
Submit your PR, get it merged, and win your swag!
