I don't belong here but there's something jobber desperately needs.

Hey my name is Chris and I totally don't belong on this page but I wanted to reach out to the jobber community. I have very limited experience with dev’s, just some alpha testing (someone was on vacation) for the API for the Kansas City Chiefs rewards program. I have moved away from technology and back into construction management. We use Jobber and it’s great for scheduling and holding customer contact data. However, there are a few things which could be added to jobber and allow us to only use it and not have to add a bloated project management system.

Change orders are the gravy in construction and can be very costly for the contractor if they blow it. An example would be a customer changing the color of their counter tops from white to black. Say you forgot to manually add this change order to your list so it was never acted upon. The tops delivered will be wrong, re-ordering them will add two weeks to the schedule and your mistake takes up space in the dumpster. Now a no-charge change order just cost you thousands.

You would need a form for change orders which is emailed to the home owner for approval. Once approved the change order is then added to the scope of work, which would be just an amended estimate after contract. The amount of the change order is added to the total cost of the scope of work. The change order would then populate the change orders list that could be sorted by thing such as one, the employee or a subcontractor responsible for completing the change order, type of work(i.e. carpentry, plumbing), and the change orders location in the critical path.

Change orders are desperately needed, but there are a few things you could add quickly. One would be a punch list. Just a check off list of things that trades need to correct. Another would be the color selection list. This is simply the color and the type of material the homeowner needs to choose, such as the exterior: almond vinyl vs blue cedar siding and in the living room: beige wool carpeting vs mahogany stained 2-1/4” red oak flooring. A few text boxes would be fine.

How many times did I just type “change order’ when C.O. works.

I would be very grateful if you would consider these additions. Feel free to contact me.
