At Hedera, we have always believed in the power of transparency, open governance, and community-driven innovation. Today, I’m proud to share a pivotal moment in our journey that highlights this commitment: Hedera has become a founding Premier Member of the newly launched LF Decentralized Trust, the new Linux Foundation home for a growing ecosystem of blockchain, ledger, identity, interoperability, cryptographic, and related technologies, including all of the Hyperledger Foundation’s projects and communities.
In an unprecedented move, Hedera has contributed the entirety of its source code—encompassing the hashgraph consensus algorithm, core services, and essential tools— to this global open-source foundation, where it will live as the "Hiero" project.
This move is not only a testament to Hedera’s dedication to decentralized governance, but it also positions us as a leader in promoting a collaborative and inclusive environment for blockchain and decentralized technologies. Hiero (pronounced hai·ruh), now an official project under LF Decentralized Trust, will foster a rich ecosystem of developers, innovators, and enterprises. This project will drive forward critical applications for the Hedera network, such as wallets, decentralized exchanges, SDKs, and advanced cryptographic solutions.
Hiero, an LF Decentralized Trust project, is a robust open source distributed ledger technology that includes all the core network software needed to deploy and run a full public network and interact with the Hedera network.
This marks the first time in history a public blockchain has donated its full codebase to an independent foundation. Hiero represents a crucial step in reinforcing the principles that have driven us from the beginning: decentralization, transparency, and security. With this contribution, we are setting a new precedent for other blockchain ecosystems—one where cooperation triumphs over competition, and where openness builds trust.
LF Decentralized Trust's mission aligns perfectly with our own. This foundation was created to ensure that decentralized technologies have a neutral home, one that is secure, transparent, and encourages global collaboration. With Hedera’s leadership as a founding Premier Member, Hiero is poised to be a cornerstone for decentralized applications, welcoming contributions from developers around the world.
Our involvement with LF Decentralized Trust extends beyond contributing code. We will also be joining the Governing Board alongside leaders from Accenture, DTCC, and Hitachi—individuals and organizations that understand the profound impact decentralized trust can have on reshaping industries. Together, we will guide the future of decentralized systems and work toward ensuring these technologies thrive for years to come.
Our commitment to the Hedera ecosystem remains unwavering. While Hedera’s code now benefits from the stewardship and vast resources of the Linux Foundation, the operational governance of the Hedera network remains with the Hedera Council. This transition strengthens the network, offering a robust foundation for developers while ensuring security, integrity, and decentralization are never compromised.
This is a moment that truly defines our future—and the future of decentralized networks everywhere. We’re excited to see what innovations the global community brings through Hiero, and how these advancements will shape industries, markets, and communities in profound ways.
We are grateful to our partners, our council members, and the entire Hedera community for their continued support as we embark on this next chapter.
Together, we are not just building technology; we are building the future of decentralized trust.
