Events around Java Microservices, Containers and Best Practices

Dave Nugent 🌉 - Jul 16 '20 - - Dev Community

In July and August, I'm running a series of events with experts from all over the world, focused on best practices in Java, Kubernetes and Microservice architectures. RSvP if that's the kind of stuff you want us to be teaching, and if you're interested in something else, please reach out to me on Twitter -- my DMs are open.

Table of Contents

July 27: Troubleshooting Containerized Applications

Join Ana Maria Mihalceanu and learn how to improve software uptime through knowledge of containers and Kubernetes. RSvP Here.

July 30: MicroProfile GraphQL: Get everything you ever wanted

MicroProfile GraphQL provides a powerful yet easy-to-learn API for building services that conform to the GraphQL specification. Similar to JAX-RS for RESTful services, MP GraphQL uses simple annotations to turn your application into a microservice endpoint. It includes basic features like queries and mutations as well as advanced features like error handling, pagination, etc. This session will cover the basics of GraphQL and how to build your first GraphQL application in Java. RSvP Here.

July 31: Java and Containers - Make it Awesome!

This session will provide a peek into how the JVM is adapting to running in the cloud and what Java developers need to be aware to ensure they get the most of running in the cloud.

The session will pick an example spring application and tune it stage by stage at the end of which we have an application that is fully optimized and takes advantage of every aspect of the running in a cloud. RSvP Here.

August 6: Reacting to an Event-Driven World

Join Grace Jansen and Kate Stanely as they discuss a world with data at its heart. The amount of data being produced every day is growing exponentially and a large amount of this data is in the form of events. Whether it be updates from sensors, clicks on a website or even tweets, applications are bombarded with a never-ending stream of new events. So, how can we architect our applications to be more reactive and resilient to these fluctuating loads and better manage our thirst for data? In this session explore how Kafka and Reactive application architecture can be combined in applications to better handle our modern data needs. RSvP Here.

August 7: Ethical Hacking: Culture for the Curious

Join IBM's Jayashree S Kumar in this discussion of exploits and ethical hacking. In today’s tech-driven world, we are more vulnerable to hacking than you could imagine. It is important we are equipped with at least some knowledge of what we are up against. RSvP Here.

August 14: Knative Vert.x Microservices on Red Hat OpenShift

In this tutorial in the Build Smart on Kubernetes World Tour series, you learn how to deploy and consume ready-to-use deep learning microservices on Red Hat® OpenShift® on IBM Cloud. RSvP Here.

August 17: Learning about Deep Learning: Applications for OpenJDK/Java Verification

We identify some well-known software verification problems, using real-world examples from open-source projects and see how we might apply some deep learning principles to address them. In the various points where we may test the Java runtime, we find candidates for deep learning. What is required? We need a problem to solve, a model that describes it, and a large amount of data to feed the neural network. RSvP Here.

August 19: A new and Open Way to Build Cloud-Native Microservices - MicroProfile

Ever wondered what makes a cloud-native application "cloud-native"? Ever wondered what the unique challenges are and how best to address them on fully open Java technologies?
In this session, you'll learn what it means to be cloud-native and how that impacts application development. You'll learn about Eclipse MicroProfile, an industry collaboration defining technologies for the development and management of cloud-native microservices.
In this session, we will discuss in detail on how MicroProfile can help with developing cloud-native microservices, followed by a live demo of creating and running a cloud-native microservice on Open Liberty and Quarkus. RSvP Here.

August 20: AI integration with OpenShift: Deploy and consume ready-to-use deep learning microservices on OpenShift

[RSvP Here] Join IBM developer advocates Nigel Brown and Dave Nugent as they show how to call a cloud-based AI service, and then lead an interactive lab allowing the audience to build their own hybrid cloud-hosted AI microservice hosted on a Kubernetes cluster. RSvP Here.

August 25: Serverless Developer Summit

The serverless software development paradigm is fraught with promise and complexity. Join experts in their field as we discuss what serverless can bring to a software development organization, as well as the technology behind the serverless microservices we use every day. RSvP Here.
