As a Developer Advocate at Twitter, I have the privilege of seeing many tools developers have created using the Twitter API. I’m consistently impressed and inspired by what developers have made using the Twitter API. However, when I’d hear from other developers that they were unsure what they could build with the Twitter API.
So, earlier this year, we launched Twitter Toolbox, a hub where you easily discover, learn more about, and quickly sign-up for third-party developer tools that enhance your Twitter experience. Tools are bots, on-Twitter enhancements, or off-Twitter experiences that you invent. This is especially exciting because this is the first time that we’ve featured tools created by developers in such a prominent way.
Categories of the Toolbox
We currently have three types of tools in the Toolbox:
Expression tools - Discover new and creative ways to compose, organize, and manage your Tweets. These tools include Chirr, Thread Reader, and Buffer.
Safety tools - Helping you find new or more efficient ways to filter unwanted content, mentions, and profiles with our safety tools, Block Party and Bodyguard.
Measurement tools - Measure your impact and explore new ways to connect with your audience using Ilo, Blackmagic, Direcon, Followerwonk, and Tweepsmap.
Next steps
If you are feeling inspired to start creating with the Twitter API, you can sign up for a developer account to get started with the API. You can also start making API calls on our developer playground.
We hope to expand the number of applications we have in the Toolbox in the future and continue to add new tools. Let us know in the comments below if you have any tools you think we should consider for this program.
