What is Originality.AI?

Eden AI offers Originality.AI's Text Analysis solution on its platform amongst several other technologies. We want our users to have access to multiple AI engines and manage them in one place so they can reach high performance, optimize cost and cover all their needs.
There are many reasons for using multiple AI APIs :
Fallback provider is the ABCs.
You need to set up an AI API that is requested if and only if the main AI API does not perform well (or is down). You can use the confidence score returned or other methods to check provider accuracy.
Performance optimization.
After the testing phase, you will be able to build a mapping of AI vendors' performance that depends on the criteria that you chose. Each data that you need to process will be then sent to the best API.
Cost - Performance ratio optimization.
This method allows you to choose the cheapest provider that performs well for your data. Let's imagine that you choose Google Cloud API for customer "A" because they all perform well and this is the cheapest. You will then choose Microsoft Azure for customer "B", a more expensive API but Google performances are not satisfying for customer "B". (this is a random example)
Combine multiple AI APIs.
This approach is required if you look for extremely high accuracy. The combination leads to higher costs but allows your AI service to be safe and accurate because AI APIs will validate and invalidate each other for each piece of data.
Interview with the CEO of Originality.AI
We had the chance to talk to Jonathan Gillham, Originality AI's CEO, who agreed to answer some of our questions:
Who are you and what is Originality.AI?
My name is Jonathan Gillham and I am from Collingwood Ontario. I started Originality.AI in November of 2022, which is the most accurate AI generated content detector in the world.
I got the idea for Originality.AI in 2022 after I made an exit from a Content Marketing business that I had started in 2016. Having been at the forefront of a marketing agency, my original idea was to create a Plagiarism Detector that didn’t have the same challenges that I had experienced using the most common alternative (Copyscape).
What inspired you to start your company?
Having been one of the longest and most loyal Copyscape customers for many years, there were so many things that needed to be addressed to enhance user experience for agency use- such as having team management options, scan history options, credit top up automation etc..
As we started to build the plagiarism tool, AI kept getting better and better and online industries were starting to get pretty challenged by it, especially the content marketing world. We decided that we needed to shift our primary focus and started playing around with GPT-3 generated content detection (this was before ChatGPT had launched).
We hired an incredible team and figured out how to detect GPT-3 generated content quite accurately. When ChatGPT launched, it sent content Marketers and Publishers into a full panic. We were fortunate that our previous work on GPT-3 gave us a head start out of the gates which allowed us to develop an accurate tool quite quickly. Since then, we have been growing really, really fast!
What solution do you provide?
Our main feature is AI Detector. We outperform the alternative detection tools on the latest and most challenging NLP models (ChatGPT, GPT-4). We are also the only tool on the market that is able to accurately detect Paraphrased content (using paraphrasing tools like Quillbot)
Our other features include Plagiarism Detection and a Readability feature. Our Readability feature is our newest feature available in the Originality.AI suite of tools and comes complimentary with the Plagiarism Detection.

Who are your customers?
We are a premium paid tool for professionals who publish content at scale. We are primarily used by professional writers, publishers and content agencies.
We are not anti-AI, but with the emergence of chatGPT, as well as Google announcing that they will look to penalize websites that use AI generated content that doesn’t meet their E-E-A-T guideline, we think that every publisher deserves to know what they are publishing and who created it.
We also think that AI detection is key to preserving the value of original content written by thought leaders in their industries. In a landscape where content written by AI vs Humans is not so easily distinguishable, it is going to be crucial to have software that can help us to make informed decisions about what we are publishing.
How will your product evolve?
Our AI detection is going to evolve as AI capabilities evolve. There are always going to be updates and we are always going to be looking to improve rate of detection. We are working hard on decreasing our false positive rate.
We want to be a Content Marketers #1 go-to quality control tool and want to be able to offer a comprehensive suite of premium quality control applications. Our AI detection, plagiarism detection and readability features are just the beginning for us!
