Check this post in my web notes!
Following the success of my previous series, 'Building a Simple CRM with Vue' I'm energized by the enthusiastic response and eager to embark on a fresh journey with all of you. In this new series, we'll delve into the realm of Nuxt.js to craft a dynamic e-commerce platform. My goal is to provide an all-encompassing guide, catering both to newcomers looking to grasp the fundamentals of Nuxt development and seasoned developers seeking valuable insights and techniques. In this opening installment, we're setting the stage for our e-commerce platform endeavor. We'll kick things off by carefully selecting our app design, and technology stack, mapping out the project structure, and tackling key preparatory tasks. Whether you're aiming to bolster your portfolio or sharpen your development prowess, I'm confident that this series will serve as a rich resource for growth and learning. Here is the result of what we will be building in this series. So, without further ado, let's outline our agenda for today's article:
- Clarifying with Project Structure and Functionality
- Choosing the Perfect Project Design
- Deciding on the Ideal Technology Stack (Nuxt.js, Pinia)
Now that we've outlined our agenda for today's article, let's dive straight into the exciting world of e-commerce platform development. We're at the threshold of a thrilling journey, where every step we take will contribute to the realization of our ambitious project.
1. Clarifying with Project Structure and Functionality
When starting a new project, it's essential to clarify its intended functionality. In simpler terms, what tasks should our application be able to perform? In our case, it should allow us to generate pages with its functionality like landing, categories, product details, cart, wishlist, etc. Let's talk about each of these parts separately a little bit:
Landing page - serves as the virtual storefront of our e-commerce platform, offering users their initial glimpse into the world of our brand and products. It is the first point of contact for visitors and plays a pivotal role in making a lasting impression. Designed to captivate and engage users, the landing page showcases key features, promotions, and products in a visually appealing and compelling manner.
The categories page serves as the organized gateway to our e-commerce platform's product catalog, allowing users to browse and explore products based on specific categories or classifications. It provides a structured navigation system that facilitates efficient product discovery and enhances the user shopping experience.
The product details page serves as the focal point for users to gain comprehensive information about a specific product offered on our e-commerce platform. It provides a detailed overview of the product's features, specifications, pricing, and availability, enabling users to make informed purchasing decisions.
The cart page serves as the virtual shopping basket where users can review, modify, and finalize their selected items before proceeding to checkout. It plays a crucial role in the e-commerce user journey, providing a centralized location for managing shopping selections and facilitating the transaction process.
Looks like we listed all major pages and functionality that we need to implement. And much work needs to be done so let's move to the next step.
2. Choosing the Perfect Project Design
It's crucial to select an exceptional design that resonates with our brand identity and captures the attention of our audience. The design we choose will not only shape the visual appeal of our platform but also influence the user experience, encouraging repeat visits and fostering customer loyalty. By prioritizing a captivating and user-friendly design, we aim to create a memorable and engaging online shopping environment that leaves a lasting impression on our users.
To tell you the truth I'm not a good designer at all, as people say I'm a "one eye blind" drawer ;). That is why I prefer using template design services like HTMLrev. That kind of HTML/CSS template allows you to transform the design into a Vue, React, or Nuxt.js component template easily. It's a life rescue pillow sometimes for me. In today's case you can use whatever design you like, as for me I found a simple but pretty template that I would like to use in future project.
It has space for implementing all the functionality that we were talking about before.
Okay, let's move on and talk about the technologies we are planning to use.
3. Deciding on the Ideal Technology Stack (Nuxt.js, Pinia)
After careful consideration, I've made the strategic decision to use Nuxt.js as the primary development framework for our e-commerce project. Nuxt.js offers an amazing set of features and benefits that align perfectly with our project requirements and objectives. Its powerful capabilities in server-side rendering, code organization, and simple Vue.js integration make it an ideal choice for building dynamic and scalable web applications.
In addition to Nuxt.js, I've also opted to incorporate Pinia as our state management solution. Pinia provides a lightweight yet powerful state management pattern for Vue.js applications, offering simplicity, flexibility, and excellent performance. By harnessing the capabilities of Pinia, we can efficiently manage our application's data flow and ensure a smooth and responsive user experience.
Together, Nuxt.js and Pinia form a formidable technology stack that empowers us to bring our e-commerce vision to life.
Also, we should not forget about the backend part, for the developing process, we will use "json-server" which will help to imitate the server job. It would be amazing to build a backend part by ourselves with Node.js for example but it sounds more like the title for another article series.
Okay, so many words and descriptions, but we need to mention all that stuff so that we can clarify all aspects of our future project, can't wait to start coding hope you have the same feelings. So get some more patience and see you in the next article, but if you want to move forward you can find the whole list in the WebCraft-Notes.
The best variant to study something is to make it by your own, the same thing works with coding, but if you need a source code for this tutorial you can get it here.
