AWS Cloud Path Week 1 - Beginners Guide to AWS Account Setup

Elizabeth Adeotun Adegbaju - Jan 12 - - Dev Community

Yesterday, I hosted the first session of the AWS Cloud Path journey (📲 Subscribe to this WhatsApp channel to stay updated on what we are working on this week!). This series is all about dedicating an hour each week to getting hands-on with AWS, tackling real-life problems, and getting your questions answered —no more isolation with pre-recorded tutorials.

Here’s a quick recap of the steps we followed (leaving out the "WHY"s, best practices, and hiccups we tackled during the session):

1️⃣ Go to the AWS Console and create your account.
2️⃣ Secure your Root Account immediately with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
3️⃣ Create a new IAM user with the necessary permissions for daily tasks.
4️⃣ Log out of the Root Account and log back in using your new IAM user.
5️⃣ Set up an AWS Budget (start with a zero-use budget to stay safely within the Free Tier).
6️⃣ (Optional) Bookmark the AWS Free Tier Service Catalog for future reference.

🎥 Watch the session here:

It was my first-ever live stream, so while I’m still figuring out the best practices for hosting, I promise you can trust me with AWS! 😉

💡 Next Week’s Session
Next Saturday, we’re diving into AWS CLI —learning how to set it up, run commands, and use it effectively. Over the coming weeks, we’ll explore AWS services, walk through workshops and architectures, and have live discussions together.

🔥 Got ideas for future topics? After covering the basics, I’ll open the floor for your suggestions on what you’d like to learn next!

Let’s keep learning and building together —see you next week! 🚀
