I just realized that you can add some basic formatting using keyboard shortcuts in comments:

cft — Sorry for the random popup in the middle, just my computer reminding me to take a break

I only found ⌥⌘i for italic, ⌥⌘b for bold, and ⌥⌘k for links. And they only seem to work on comments. Maybe the DEV team might know more?
