I feel like leadership is a very important position. If you are a leader, whatever you do becomes the norm. The way you behave represents not only you but your entire organization. If as a leader, you criticize and be mean to other employees, they are going to leave and you are the only one to blame because by criticizing them, you are telling them that the organization does not value them. That is why it is very important to choose the right people to become leaders. Not everyone is capable of becoming a good leader and the people who seem to be leader-ly are the least eligible to be leaders. We often see bossy people who bully others and get their way and we say "Oh, she/he is a great leader." But we fail to see the whole point. She/he is behaving like they own people even when they don't, imagine what they will do when you do have people working under them? They would be so incorrigibly mean that people will have no other option but to quit. Instead, leaders should be chosen based on their emotional intelligence. We should ask ourselves, is this person empathetic, is this person sympathetic, is this person kind, is this person assertive when needed, is this person a great communicator, is this person knowledgeable, is this person responsible, is this person strategic. Instead we just make bossy people leaders and they make the workplace toxic. What is your take on this?
