Definition and classification of IP protection levels for outdoor LED displays

LEDs - Feb 28 - - Dev Community

The IP protection level of outdoor LED displays is an important reference indicator when purchasing LED displays. This indicator is a system developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) to define and classify the degree of protection of LED displays from dust, water and other external objects. Understanding the definition and division of IP protection levels is critical to ensuring the performance and longevity of LED displays in outdoor environments.

Definition and classification of IP protection levels

IP stands for Ingress Protection, which means ingress protection. This grade system divides the dust-proof and waterproof characteristics of LED displays, indicating the dust-resistant and water-resistant capabilities of the equipment respectively. The IP rating consists of two numbers, representing the dust resistance level and the water resistance level. The larger the number, the higher the protection level and the stronger the protection capability. Take you 5 minutes to understand LED IP levels.

The first number: indicates the dustproof level of the device. The highest level is 6. The larger the number, the higher the dustproof level.
The second number: indicates the waterproof level of the device. The highest level is 8. The larger the number, the higher the waterproof level.

Industry standards and requirements

According to the industry standard "General Specifications for LED Displays", the enclosure protection level of LED displays should meet the requirements of the national standard "Enclosure Protection Level (IP Code)" GB4208. According to this standard, the screen protection level of indoor LED displays shall not be less than IP20, while the screen protection level of outdoor LED displays shall not be less than IP33. What is an LED box?

In addition, the industry standard "LED Display Test Method" divides the protection level of the display housing into three levels: A, B, and C. Among them, level C has the highest requirements. The A level of indoor display screens shall not be less than IP20, the B level shall not be less than IP30, and the C level shall not be less than IP31; while the A level of outdoor display screens shall not be less than IP33, the B level shall not be less than IP54, and the C level shall not be less than IP66.

Common IP protection levels

In outdoor LED displays, the common IP protection level is IP65. This rating indicates that the product is completely resistant to dust and water washing and will not be harmed in any way. However, for use in specific environments, such as riverside or coastal areas, a higher level of IP protection may be necessary, such as IP66 or IP67 ratings.

When purchasing an outdoor LED display, be sure to look for the IP protection level to ensure that the product has good dustproof and waterproof performance. This not only helps improve the performance and life of the LED display, but also provides more protection for the product to adapt to different outdoor environments and usage needs. The price of outdoor LED display is determined by ten aspects.
